Mancaves and pissing boats.

Gary and Terry, my mates in US. As promised, I´ll blog a little in finglish. Our deepfreeze and braindead country has 2-5 bloggers who use english, though it ain´t english -- it´s mumbo jumbo, with some english words. Sorry to tell I´m one of those 5,  though I only write once a year being ashamed rest of the time about  terrible and stiff dictionary language I use.
Go laugh, anyways I´ll try.
-
So I made this voyage today before all finnboats go ashore and hibernate. My destiny was Porvoo, a small swedishspeaking rural town at a river and sea. Had some business and acted as an errand runner.
The sun was shining, maybe the last time this autumn. Almost no wind, no other boats and sailors. Cool. Alone at sea.
Had my business done and went back to Tiina III.  On the river  nice boats were floating. AND…in almost every boat was a lone man sitting and enjoying the sun and sea. Absolutely no yaking ladies.
-
Those floating mancaves had a feeling of sadness cause, when boats are stranded men have to sit at home and listen to that: "Why did You…  and where have You... etc
So those sad men sat and looked at the horizon and swung by the small waves. Free now but soon to be imprisoned in the prison of feminine possession. And I looked and waved my hand and they answered and  for a short moment we felt something mutual. I was a bit proud cause my woman does not try to whack me ( usually) and at the same time I felt so bad cause those guys are going to loose their mancave soon and start a dull and fearfull living for seven months.
-
Then I kept driving not sailing.  Was nearly at home  harbor  when I noticed that a tanker threw out it´s bilge  water. Or was it ballast? Don´t know, but who knows what shit was pouring outta that ship´s guts. Some anomalies maybe? Hope the Neste, the finnish oil refinery sees this and tells what´s going on here. My cam had it´s electric power gone. Nada, no pix. So I had to shoot this one ( at the end) with my phone. Baad pic but tells the story?
-
Here´s the pics with some words. If ya wonder why no photojournalism, we'll…I´m so sick and tired about it that I have to make a break for awhile.

I´m so sorry about the text and pics jumping around, sometimes blogger just does not work.

The surface of river is a bit low… my boat did not sink.

The river is fading and the sea starts here. But the river has been carrying mud for centuries and that mud tries to change the riverbed constantly. So the city is trying to stake off the shores to keep the mud off the river.

This is where those sad men sat in their floating caves.

This dull looking place is Kokon, the very shore where Porvoo teens get rid of their
virginity on the backseat of papa´s car.

The obligatory selfie with some piping penetrating my skull. .

This is how my cockpit looks out. Nice, huh?

So here´s something  leaking out of MS. Kappagas.
What is it?  ( The color is actually white but the red hull of boat makes liquid look like red)
Ballast water from other part of globe or washing detergent…who knows.
This was the photojournalist section of my update.
If someone of You could be active enough and link this to Neste and their press information ladies.

Very difficult to comment in english, first of all, not much to comment on, your blog post was all over the place, second of all, very few people give a shit anyway.

English is my first language these days, Finnish used to be the first, Swedish second and German third... but English took over and it's all due to spending so much time talking to people using the internet all around the world for a decade and a half and only one language seems to be sort of universal...

I have friends in Israel, USA, Denmark, The Netherlands, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, and the only language I can use with all of them is English. Swedish and German, the only other languages I ever had to learn in school besides English never turned out to be very useful.

The only language a Finn should learn besides Finnish and English today, is Russian. That might lead to something.

But Terry, if you read this, please do comment, otherwise I'll be the only one.

To tell the truth, Kari Kuukka is bloggin in real and usable english. So far he´s the only one in this country. Meaning photography. His updates are hmmm…something I just cannot read - even if I should. I´ve got ex workmates all over but they are mostly retired or just gone crazy about this situation.
They were all too good guys for this fuckin world where photography is just a means to boast about oneself…it´s not anymore about visuals.

Last time I heard about my photographer friend Terry Donovan---- was when he tried to sell his house after some problems in family. Hope You read this my man. An hope all is well.
If You have time, please comment. If You have more time You could tell us something about the situation of pro photographers in USA.
Gary is another pro from LA district, he was my assistant in LA Oly games. But guess he´s not the one to attend web and SOME.

I checked out the "portfolio" on karikuukka.com.

What I saw were some odd pictures of some swordplaying sport, maybe fencing, no idea what the sport was and who won and who lost. Then I saw a strange looking mass of coloured ares in the photograph, probably showing some USA athlete having been won, but which discipline... no fucking clue. Then I lost my interest.

Kuukka might be great, but at least tell me what the picture is trying to show when I'm looking at it. Give the picture A NAME!

So somehow Finland suddenly isn't the worst place in the world...

The U S of A might be struggling with similar issues. Jore, you've been telling to the Finns we're not a civilized nation... Maybe we are, the americans might not be. Educated people are struggling to find jobs... it's not all about photographers, it might be a global phenomenon, so many smart, well educated people just can't get a job. It's a global, not a local thing.

Our friend Terry D. was never a photojournalist, he was and still is an artist, a lovely man but the world can just say no to his art. Sucks, huh? It doesnt make his art bad, though, and I'v seen a lot of it and... Ok, I don't get it, but I have nothing against TG.

You certainly stepped over the line here ;-)… being honest according to Kari -- is a death sentence in professional matters. You see, we have some people in our industry who reign and then the rest of us who lick those buttocks. Counting out some.
Finland for some reason is the most disgusting country considering how people obtain jobs or gigs.
Step on the wrong toes and You are gone………………..

Anonyymi kirjoitti...

The best thing for me is that I never cared about any toes I might stand on. I never wanted to be a photographer in the first place.

All I wanted as a kid was to get a camera to make these beautiful landscape images... I just never had a camera back then. Photography was and still is a dream, not a reality, even if I now happen to have a camera. I just cannot see those landscapes today... I'm always in the wrong place.

And true Terry D. (nice You know him too) is a true artist. Some photojournalists are artists too and that´s just bonus. But as I´ve worked in US many times I just see that a man with ideas is not shot down as happens every time here in Inflandia.
